Recently, we were delighted to welcome Courtney from Veterinary Anursethesia to Beacon View for a bespoke CPD session with our clinical team, focusing on all things anaesthesia.
Learning together to improve patient care
Anaesthesia plays an important role in veterinary medicine, from routine procedures such as neutering and dentistry through to diagnostic investigations and more complex surgery.
Every patient is different, and safe anaesthesia involves careful planning, monitoring and decision-making throughout their procedure.
Our session with Courtney gave our vets and Registered Veterinary Nurses the opportunity to explore anaesthesia in greater depth, discuss cases, ask questions and reflect on how we can continue developing our approach.
Importantly, bringing training directly into the practice meant we could learn together as a clinical team and relate the discussion to the patients, equipment and situations we encounter every day.
A growth mindset at Beacon View
One of the principles that matters greatly to us at Beacon View is having a growth mindset.
For us, that means recognising that however experienced or knowledgeable we become, there is always something more we can learn.
We want our team to feel confident asking questions, sharing ideas, reflecting on their experiences and challenging themselves to become even better.
Investing in CPD is therefore about much more than attending courses. It is about creating a culture where learning becomes part of everyday veterinary practice and where new knowledge is shared across the team.

Learning, teamwork and a little pizza
Of course, being a great team is about more than clinical development.
After a brilliant evening of learning together, we headed out for pizza and some well-earned time together away from the practice.
It was a lovely way to finish the evening and a reminder that professional development, teamwork and enjoying the journey can all go hand in hand.
