Dog walks in Deal

Betteshanger Park

If you are looking for dog walks in the Deal area then Betteshanger Park is a great place to start. Located just outside Deal on the Sandwich road, the park has dedicated parking and this costs £3 for the day.

Alternatively you can also walk to the park along the footpath accessible from South Wall Road near Deal recycling center, this way you get some fantastic views over the marshes.

Dogs must be kept on a lead when inside the park, but there are some beautiful lakes and wooded areas to enjoy. There is also bike hire and a fantastic children's play area, making Betteshanger a great location to visit with all the family.

Betteshanger also hosts some popular Canicross events, where you can run with your dog through the park. They run regular taster sessions if you would like to give Canicross a go for the first time. You can find out more about upcoming events on the Canicross Facebook page.

Deal Beach

Deal is famous for its beach, a thoroughly enjoyable dog walk is to head from Deal town down towards Kingsdown along the promenade. A particular favourite of ours is to stop for lunch at the dog friendly Zetland Arms in Kingsdown and then walk along the famous White Cliffs of Dover. The Coastguard in St Margaret’s Bay is also dog friendly and has a great selection of food and drink.

Unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed on Deal beach between 1 May - 30 September between the stretch of beach covering Deal Castle to Sandown Castle. However dogs on leads are permitted on Deal pier and on the promenade at all times of the year. The dog friendly cafe on the end of the pier is a fantastic place to stop for a coffee and enjoy the view. Dogs are free to roam on the beach from Deal Castle to Kingsdown.

Pet events in Deal

There are a number of events in Deal throughout the year for dogs and owners to enjoy. The Paws 4 Pilgrims 5km dog walk is a great day out and an opportunity to raise money for a good cause at the same time. The walk starts in Deal and continues to Walmer, before returning on the same route, afterwards there is a dog show and food stalls to enjoy.

The Walmer show has been running for over 40 years and is a popular staple in the Deal and Walmer calendar. The show is a very enjoyable day out for pets and their owners, and also does a fantastic job of raising money for local charities. All dogs are welcomed into enter the show, but even if you don’t fancy entering the competition it’s worth heading along to enjoy the day and have a browse of the many dog related stalls.
