New protection for rabbits against RHD

We wanted to let you know about a new vaccine that we are now offering at Beacon View Vets to help protect rabbits in the Canterbury, Thanet, Deal and Dover area against Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD).

Yurvac is a new vaccine that provides additional protection against VHD2, a highly contagious and often fatal disease that continues to circulate in the UK and can affect both indoor and outdoor rabbits.

Why consider Yurvac for your rabbit?

  • Provides additional protection against VHD2.
  • Helps strengthen your rabbit’s overall disease protection alongside their routine vaccinations.
  • Particularly helpful for rabbits that spend time outdoors or may come into contact with other rabbits.

Most rabbits already receive an annual vaccination that protects against Myxomatosis and VHD (Myxo-RHD Plus). Yurvac can be given in addition to this vaccine to provide an extra layer of protection.

When can my rabbit have it?

You have two options depending on what suits you best:

  • Book an appointment soon if you would like your rabbit to have this additional protection as soon as possible.
  • Plan to have it shortly after your rabbit’s next annual vaccination, as Yurvac is given 2–4 weeks after the Myxo-RHD Plus vaccine.

If you would like to arrange this vaccine, or if you would like to discuss whether it would be beneficial for your rabbit, please contact the practice and our team will be happy to help.

We are pleased to be able to offer this new vaccine to help protect Rabbits from around the Ramsgate, Deal, Dover and Canterbury area.
